Groundwork Action’s Lindsay Owens Reacts to Democrats Taking Control of the House and Senate in Historic 2026 Midterm Elections
Following landslide election results in favor of Democrats across the country, Groundwork Action President and CEO Lindsay Owens issued the following statement.
“Across the historic night for Democrats, there was one unifying theme from moderates and progressives alike: taking on corporate greed and corruption wins elections. The lesson couldn’t be clearer: economic populism is a potent political force.
“For decades, Washington promised Americans that tax cuts mainly benefitting the wealthy and deregulation of big business would allow prosperity to trickle down and raise all boats. Last night, the American people made clear they’re done with this broken promise.
“Now this newly empowered Democratic majority must put their rhetoric into action. As 2026 demonstrated, if the majority simply works to undo Trump’s damage and goes back to business as usual, it will face the same electoral backlash that swept the Republican majority from power. Corporations have been picking our pockets for years. And only Congress has the power to put a stop to it. Democrats must bring the CEOs of Big Oil, Big Pharma, insurance giants, and AI companies before Congress and make them answer for the prices Americans are paying and the profits executives are pocketing.
“Voters have handed Democrats a mandate to take on corporate greed, bring down costs, and make billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share. Now Democrats must use it.”
